ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE IS:

- To further international goodwill and understanding by enabling students to study first-hand some of the accomplishments and differences of people in other lands,

- To enable students to advance their education by studying for a year in an entirely different environment, and take courses and subjects not normally available to them,

- To broaden students outlook by learning to live with and meet people of different cultures, and having to cope with day to day living,

- To act as ambassadors for their own country and Rotary by addressing and spreading the word to clubs, schools, community organisations and youth groups in their host country,

- To study and observe life and culture in the host country so that on their return they can relate their understanding and goodwill to clubs and the community.

The Act of Kindness

The Ballarat East Rotary Club supports “The Act of Kindness” a charitable organisation which seeks to recognise a “simple act of kindness” carried out by children who display a genuine level of compassion and generosity towards others within their school or community.

Designed to compliment existing school based awards for such things as sporting, or academic excellence, The Act of Kindness recognises children who are thoughtful, considerate and helpful without the expectation of reward or accolade.

The Act of Kindness Award

Each week, a child who has displayed kind or generous behaviour towards another person is chosen by the teachers at their school to receive The Act of Kindness Award. The recipient is formally acknowledged at the weekly assembly and is also noted in the school newsletter.

The child receives:

  • public recognition for spontaneously embracing the essence of The Act of Kindness
  • the Act of Kindness award certificate
  • a beautifully gift boxed cupcake.

The award brings together three key groups to recognise The

Act of Kindness carried out spontaneously for the benefit of

another:

  • child
  • school community or
  • school award sponsor
