Poverty Point Memorial
Poverty
Point is an historic landmark situated in Main Road Ballarat East that commemorates
the discovery of gold in Ballarat. The site is a park area with picnic
facilities and is maintained by our Rotary Club. As part of our clubs 40th
birthday celebrations we installed a seat near the memorial with a bronze
plaque to record this event.
Lake Esmond
Lake Esmond is one of
Ballarat’s hidden treasures. This little known lake started life as a
quarry in Larter Street Ballarat East and became inundated when an
underground spring was breached. The lake was given to the City of Ballarat and
development began. Originally envisioned to become a Botanical Garden, the
lake boasts an array of plant life and park lands. Of recent times our
Rotary Club has established an award winning maintenance program. We have
been instrumental in publicising the venue and with the council providing a
barbeque area and supplying a toilet block, this should remain a great
family facility for all to enjoy.
Meals On Wheels
The Rotary Club of Ballarat East is involved with the Meals On Wheels project
in Ballarat, delivering meals every Saturday morning.
Buninyong Farmers
Market at Buninyong Town Hall
3rd
Saturday of each month – 9.00 am to 1.30 pm
The Rotary Club of Ballarat
East co-ordinates this farmers market with approximately 40 stall holders
attending. Stallholders are sellers of primary produce and value-added,
non-commercial goods. We hope to be able to keep it that way but it will
depend upon the availability of primary product (in this time of drought)
and the willingness of growers/producers to travel often long distances to
attend this market.
Stall holders provide in season produce direct from the
growers including:
-
Cheeses and Wines
-
Organic Sour Dough Breads
-
Highland beef
-
Honey
-
Plants
-
Pasta’s and Preserves
-
Soaps and Herbal Balms
-
Hand made clothes etc.
-
Rotary BBQ on site with Gourmet Sausages

Bowel cancer is the most common cancer affecting
Australians. By the age of 75, 1 in 20 men and 1 in 24 women will develop
bowel cancer. The incidence of the disease increases progressively from the
age of 40. If you are over 40, you, your partner, other family members and
friends in this age group should participate in the Bowelscan program ----
90% of bowel cancers can be cured if detected early. YEARLY TESTING SAVES
LIVES.
