Testimonial
By Judy Dennis, PHF and
Past President 1999-2000
I made the decision to join Rotary in 1996
after watching my daughter get a lot of enjoyment from being in Rotaract. It has turned out to be one of the best
decisions I have ever made! Being only the second woman to be
invited to join the Club, it was a little daunting at first. However, I
soon felt at home and began to look forward to our weekly meetings.
My main objective for joining Rotary was to become
more involved in my local community. I soon found myself helping at
various fund raising efforts that always seemed to find us cooking lots and
lots of sausages, feeding hungry bike riders, showing local art works or
collecting goods for donations in kind to go overseas to our needy
neighbours.
Rotary is just like being in an extended
family! We get a lot of enjoyment from what we do and along the way we
also have lots of fun.
You will find as I have that
belonging to Rotary is a way to broaden your horizons, make new friends and
business contacts and, more importantly, give you the privilege of serving
others who are less fortunate than us!

When I joined Rotary, a Rotarian told me that any effort
I put in would be repaid many times over, and he was right. Not in monetary
terms or in receipt of any favourable treatment but in self-development and
learning about the rest of the world. For instance:
- Visiting
industries where we find out how things are made or services are
provided and
- Pride
in working with an organization that is ridding the world of polio or
performing incredibly skilled surgery on children with horrendous birth
defects.
It is good to be in cheerful company of Rotarians whether
it is at a dinner meeting, delivering meals on wheels or cooking sausages
for a hungry crowd.
So for as long as I can make a meaningful contribution
to society through Rotary, I will continue as a Rotarian.
